AFL STAR CODY WEIGHTMAN SHOWCASES ARTISTIC TALENTS AT FIRST GALLERY EXHIBITION
AFL forward Cody Weightman is set to unveil a different side of his creativity with an exclusive art exhibition titled “BEYOND THE GAME: The creative pursuits of AFL players” at At The Above a gallery and concept space in Fitzroy that works closely with emerging artists to bring their artistic visions to life. The exhibition will open its doors to the public from Friday 30th August to Sunday 1st September.
Known for his athletic prowess on the field with the Western Bulldogs, Weightman has been quietly honing his skills as an artist, with this exhibition marking a significant step in sharing his passion for art beyond the sporting ground. A combination between realism, surrealism and modern art, Weightman will display designs across NBA, NFL, skateboarding, boxing, UFC and golf. Visitors to the gallery will have the opportunity to view and purchase these unique artworks created and painted by Weightman, reflecting his personal journey and artistic vision.
Art enthusiasts and fans alike will be able to bid for the one-of-a-kind pieces through the Givergy website, taking home bespoke creations by Weightman. Profits from the winning bids will be donated to Make-A-Wish, which grants life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses.
"I've always loved expressing myself through art and this exhibition is a chance to share that part of me with the world," said Weightman. "Being able to contribute to Make-A-Wish through my art makes it even more special. I hope my work can bring joy to others while supporting such a powerful cause."
Weightman’s balance between the football field and the art studio highlights the multifaceted talents of AFL players and underscores the importance of pursuing creative passions outside of sport. His artwork promises to captivate audiences with its blend of personal narrative and artistic flair.
The exhibition, generously supported by CoinSpot, will launch with Christian Petracca showcasing his culinary prowess by designing a menu and catering to guests, while Izak Rankine will provide a live performance showcasing his musical talent.
